Malbec
Kaiken Mai The First Malbec 2018
Cellar for up to 10 years. Decant 1 hour before serving.
Named for the Patagonian wild geese that traverse the Andes mountains between Chile and Argentina we arrive at Kaiken – a Mendoza appellation producer focusing on the region’s best terroir with special attention to the Uco Valley.
The wine is named Mai, meaning “first'' in Pehuenche dialect, and aims to pay homage to this indigenous tribe’s past, present and future as the region's first and original people. This cuvee is 100% Malbec and includes fruit selections from Vistalba vineyard’s 80 year old vines. Co
It may not be your typical Malbec. Multi-site and old vine complexity, combined with a long pre-fermentation cold soak brings serious depth and concentration to this wine. Displaying dense, opaque purple in the glass, the aromas follow suite: cassis, blackberry, raisin. 18 months of new French oak aging imparts notes of coconut and cocoa. The palate is opulent and stout exhibiting black fruit preserves, prune, leather, olive and eucalyptus. Let the personality of this wine shine by pairing with simply prepared red meat and lightly seasoned sides.
