Extending over 33 hectares of vineyards located in Ballard Canyon in the Santa Ynez Valley, Jonata is today one of the most interesting wineries in California and produces wines of excellent quality from international vines, on a unique and extraordinary terroir with sandy soils. Agricultural and winemaking practices are followed by an experienced and talented team led by vineyard manager Ruben Solorzano and winemaker Matt Dees.

The Fenix from the Jonata winery is a classic Bordeaux-style blend with a majority of Merlot and some additions of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. The grapes are harvested from vineyards located on sandy soils which lead the vines to seek nutrients deeply, resulting in concentrated wines with good aging potential.

The wine has a mature and elegant character with notes of dark fruit such as black cherries, currants, and cassis followed by hints of coffee and chocolate, and tertiary aromas of spices. On the palate, it is rich and linear, smooth and dense with some mineral notes and a long, lingering finish. It is perfect with grilled meat or hearty pasta dishes with meat sauces like Lasagna Bolognese or traditional Greek Pastitsio.
