Domagoj Klasiček, the owner of Iuris winery, has earned a reputation for being a bit of a maverick in his native Croatia due to his vision to make sumptuous red wines in a region known for its fresh white wines. The winery dates back to 1976 when his father bought 56 hectares of old vines planted in 1910.
Domagoj got involved with his father’s project following the devastating Croatian-Serbian war during which he had spent time working at top estates like Chateau Cheval Blanc, Chateau Margaux, and Chateau d’Yquem in Bordeaux. Determined to breathe fresh life into the winemaking traditions of the region and use the knowledge he had acquired abroad, Domagoj started to plant international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Merlot to see what would suit the excellent Croatian terroir.
Rosalia is crafted from Domagoj’s Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir grapes which is ideal to enjoy alone on a hot summer’s day or with spicy Asian dishes. On the nose there are seductive aromas of raspberries, strawberries, vanilla and pomegranate, while the palate offers sweet crushed berry flavours balanced by a fresh acidity and crisp clean finish.
