Henschke winery has been a viticultural force in Southern Australia for over 150 years. Originally founded by Johann Christian, the first member of the family to make the voyage from Brandenburg in 1841, the family is now entering its sixth generation of wine-makers. Husband and wife Stephen and Prue lead the way, followed by their three children, who are also deeply involved in the business.
Keeping future generations in mind, the Henschke family have received awards for environmental excellence and their approach to sustainability. They source fruits from vineyards across the Barossa Range, all of which are cultivated using organic and biodynamic methods.
Notes of wild berries, black, red and blue, emerge on the nose of this deep crimson wine, along with floral hints of violet. They are supported by savoury and spice notes of cedar, sage and black pepper. This is a blend made mostly of Shiraz/Syrah, featuring elements of Grenache, Mataro and Viognier, perfect for those who want a distinctive taste of Barossa. The name pays homage to Henry Evans, who planted the first seven acres of Keyneton vines in 1853. The palate is round and perfectly juicy, bearing flavours of blueberry, strawberry and ripe plum, supported by structured tannins. Pair it with a juicy steak, roasted lamb, or artichoke hearts.
