With a long tradition of almost 150 years, the Gramona winery produces excellent wines (both still and sparkling) in the Spanish region of Catalonia. The company is strongly committed to the environment and for some years has been converting its vineyards to the principles of biodynamic agriculture. In the cellar, wine continues to be produced in an artisanal way as it was done at the beginning of the 1900s, with a clear commitment to the use of biodegradable materials in the packaging of their wines.
Gramona Imperial Brut is a blend of Macabeo (40%), Xarel·lo (40%), Chardonnay (15%), and Parellada (5%) grapes grown in the Corpinnat designation of origin. After the manual harvest and the pressing of whole bunches, the wine is made sparkling through the traditional method (or Champenoise) and then left to mature on its lees for over 50 months! Despite containing only 10% Chardonnay grapes, the Gramona Imperial is an elegant, sumptuous wine and very similar to some French Champagnes.
The wine immediately shows a straw yellow color and a fine and persistent perlage. The nose is fragrant and very pleasant with aromas of ripe stone fruit and exotic fruit (especially papaya), followed by subtle toasted notes and brioche. In the mouth, it is mineral and velvety, fresh and savory with a long aftertaste of fruit cake. Excellent as an aperitif and with seafood.
