This is an elegant and dry red wine, made from 100% Sangiovese. It opens with aromas of liquorice, plum, tobacco smoke, and rich cranberry, perfect for those who enjoy full-bodied Tuscan reds. The grapes were grown on calcareous soils in the San Leolino vineyard, which has been recognised as a Grand Cru location for about 200 years.

Fontodi is a family winery, owned and operated by the Manetti family since 1968. The Manetti’s are about as Chianti as it gets – before transitioning into winemaking, they were known for making the region’s famous terracotta tiles. Their 130-hectare estate is entirely chemical-free, and the family not only seek sustainability, but a level of self-sustainability, relying on their land as much as possible.

It possesses an angular, firm structure on the palate, with gripping tannins, and strong notes of sour cherry. You can also discover hints of rose petals, dried herbs, and coffee as the wine opens up. It has massive potential for cellaring, and will evolve and reveal more character over time. This Chianti Classico is ideal for pairing with braised beef, roasted game, or pungent cheeses.
