Folie a Deux Russian River Chardonnay 2018

Folie a Deux literally translates from the French as “madness for two” and refers to a psychiatric disorder whereby two people share the same delusional belief. In this case, that belief was that two wine-loving psychiatrists could set up their very own winery and make delicious wines. Four decades later, their madness has proved to be a resounding success with the winery specialising in artisanal wines inspired by the exceptional terroirs found in Sonoma County.

This elegant Chardonnay is crafted from grapes primarily sourced from the Russian River AVA where the cool climate is perfect for making fresh, aromatic white wines. The vineyards here are regularly blanketed by fog from the nearby Pacific Ocean, meaning the vines enjoy cooler nights and a very long, consistent ripening period.

Once harvested the grape must is then fermented in a mixture of French, American and Hungarian oak barrels. 85% of the wine is then aged in the barrels for 6 months with the remainder kept in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and varietal typicity. The result is a well-rounded, robust white wine bursting with ripe peach, apricot and mango notes as well as hints of toast, vanilla and sweet spice from the oak.
