Argentina is best known for its seductive Malbecs, but this enigmatic country is also home to the world’s highest altitude vines. Set in the stunning Calchaquí Valley, El Esteco boasts vineyards planted at over 1800 metres above sea level and a winemaking history that stretches back to 1892.
The unique landscape here is a critical factor in the winery’s success, helping to produce incredibly concentrated grapes thanks to the cold nights and intense sunlight during the daytime. This in turn produces perfectly balanced wines which boast rich, layered flavours, smooth tannins, and a distinctive freshness and elegance on the finish.
This particular wine is made from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes that are grown on the winery's oldest vineyards planted over 50 years ago. On the nose you can expect vibrant notes of ripe cassis, blackberry, dark cherry and roasted plum, while the first sip reveals a punchy full body complemented by a solid core of dark fruit. Smooth tannins and a bright freshness make this a great match for grilled red meats, hearty stews, and also seasonal game dishes like pheasant, venison, and guinea fowl.
