Donna Olimpia Costa Toscana Tageto 2016
Drink now through to 2022. No need to decant before serving.
This sublime Italian red opens with seductive aromas of red berries, chocolate and licorice. The first sip reveals intense cherry and plum flavours along with hints of Mediterranean herbs and baking spice. The gentle tannins and refined structure make this wine an ideal partner for cheeses and charcuterie or to simply enjoy on its own.
The Tageto takes its name from an ancient legend of the Etruscan people who once inhabited this part of Italy. According to their traditions, Tageto was the name of a boy who introduced the Etruscans to the art of cultivating olive trees to produce delicious olive oil and vines to make wine. This bottling begins life in the hills of Livorno close to the coast where wine has been made since ancient times since the land is ideally suited to growing excellent quality grapes.
The Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot , Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc grapes used for this wine are carefully selected and harvested before being fermented and matured in wooden barrels for up to 6 months. The wine then spends a further 6 months ageing in the bottle before it is ready for release.
