Located in Rasteau, in the Southern Rhône wine region, Domaine Bressy Masson is a family business founded in 1948 by Marius Bressy. The estate, which extends over 20 hectares with varied terroir, is now managed by Paul-Emile Masson, grandson of Marius, who recently joined forces with Laurent Bréchet, owner of Chateau de Vaudieu.
The wine is a blend of Grenache Noir and Syrah. The Grenache grapes are grown in the vineyards around the estate on soils composed of blue marl and fluvial-lacustrine conglomerates. Syrah comes from the stony terraces of Plan de Dieu and Crapon. Fermentation takes place separately and after a period of maceration, the wines are refined in demi muid (Syrah) and concrete or steel tanks (Grenache), before blending.
Domaine Bressy Masson Rasteau has a deep ruby color and a complex aromatic profile that reveals notes of blackberries, blackcurrants and raspberries, violets, and hints of pepper. On the palate, it is dense and fresh, intensely fruity and medium-bodied. The tannins are firm but well-integrated. The finish is long and recalls pleasant spicy and licorice notes. It is a versatile wine and pairs very well with grilled meats or spicy beef recipes.
