Drink now through to 2022. No need to decant before serving.
This sublime Italian Syrah opens with a deep inky ruby hue and enchanting aromas of dark cherry, leather and baking spice. The first sip reveals a full body, smooth tannins and long finish full of crushed wild berry and cigar box flavours. The fine acidity and well-developed structure make this an ideal partner for traditional Italian charcuterie and hard cheeses as well as fresh pasta served with a rich tomato sauce.
The Montecchiesi estate has belonged to the Dal Cero family since 1980 when brothers Giuseppe and Dario took a leap of faith on the viticultural potential of Cortona in southern Tuscany close to Lake Trasimeno. In addition to native Sangiovese grapes the pair decided to grow Syrah since the warm summers and significant variation in temperature between the day and night offered ideal conditions for this sun-loving variety. Time has proved the brothers right and today their powerful Syrahs attract accolades from all over the globe.
Their Selverello Syrah is crafted from hand-harvested grapes which are grown at an elevation of 280 metres to retain freshness in the finished wine. After the fermentation and maceration process the wine is aged in large oak barrels for six months before it is deemed ready for release.
