The Oberto family who own Ciabot Berton have a reputation for producing stunning single vineyard Barolos and Barberas, drawing on generations of winemaking knowledge and viticultural expertise. The first known record of the family in La Morra dates back to the 1200s and the family have been involved in cultivating vines at least as far back as 1800.
In the 1980s the Obertos founded their winery headquarters close to the site of a former fireworks factory and have added prime vineyard plots to their holdings over the years. The Ciabot Berton Barolo La Morra is carefully crafted with Nebbiolo grapes from La Morra on south-west and south-east facing slopes which sit at 300 metres of elevation.
In keeping with traditional winemaking methods of the region, the Oberto family prefer to use long macerations and age their wines in large 25hl Slovenian oak botti to enhance the pure varietal character of the Nebbiolo. The Barolo La Morra spends 18 months months ageing in these large casks before transferring to stainless steel tanks for a further 6 months. The result is a remarkably refined Barolo which exudes aromas of violets, rose, dark berries, and sweet spice. On the palate there is a firm structure balanced by a fresh acidity and seductive plum, fig and licorice flavours.
