Domaine Ste Michelle only produces sparkling wines. Despite being made in Columbia Valley, Washington, the wine is made using Méthode Champenoise, which means it is made in the classic sparkling style that Champagne also uses. This helps elevate Ste Michelle’s sparkling to a much higher quality than other New World sparkling producers.
The current winemaker, Paula Eakin, is a sparkling aficionado who has spent over 20 years making wine in Washington. The ongoing goal with their non-vintage brut is to create a consistent sparkling wine year after year. This is done each year by tasting the samples from several lots and then blending them with previous vintages and other varietals, which follows cuvee creation methods practiced by celebrated Champagne houses.
Columbia Valley sits on a very similar latitude as Champagne. In addition to similar growing conditions, these two areas also get two additional hours of sunlight during the growing season thanks in part to their geographic location.
When poured in a flute, you will see persistent and tiny bubbles. The nose will have delicate green apple aromas and a vibrant citrus quality.
