Chateau de Grand Pre is one of Beaujolais’ most exciting organic estates thanks to the hardworking and passionate Zordan family who have been managing this estate since the arrival of Louis and Renée in 1972. Today the property is in the capable hands of their daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Claude, along with their grandson, Romain, who represents the third generation of Zordans to make wine on this charming Fleurie estate.

Their Chateau de Grand Pre Fleurie expresses the essence of the estate and the Zordan family’s artisanal approach to winemaking. The grapes are carefully sourced from low-yielding vines with an average age of over 30 years which are harvested by hand. On arrival at the winery the grapes undergo semi-carbonic maceration for 10 to 15 days to release the delicate aromatics of the Gamay.

The grape must is then vinified without the use of sulphites and with the natural wild yeasts which are found in the winery. The wine is then left to mature in oak barrels for at least 7 months to create a complex, multi-layered wine which will continue to evolve and develop over the next decade or so. The flavour profile is voluptuous with plenty of rich red cherries, violets, and savoury hints which make this a perfect match for duck or game dishes.
