Chateau d’Esclans is famed for their iconic Provençal rosé, Whispering Angel, but the real star of the estate is the magnificent Garrus. Lauded by critics across the globe, this cult wine is regularly described as the finest rosé in the world by the likes of Jancis Robinson, James Suckling and Wine Enthusiast. Garrus is crafted in tiny quantities from 80-year old Grenache, Vermentino and Syrah vines which are harvested early in the morning to capture the freshness and aromatic qualities of the grapes.
Once in the winery the finest quality juice, the free-run juice which flows first from the press, is selected to be used in Garrus with fermentation in large oak casks. The wine then matures for 10 months in the barrel with regular battonage to add extra texture and creaminess before bottling.
The result is a captivating style of rosé unlike any other on the market. On the nose there are hints of delicate red berries, wild herbs and almond blossoms while the first sip reveals a crisp freshness, full body and silky smooth mouth-filling texture which makes Garrus a pleasure to drink alone or with food. Pair with fresh seafood, pan-fried salmon steaks or leafy summer salads.
