Champagne Pommery Brut Royal
Drink now or cellar for up to 10 years. Serve well chilled.
Pommery was founded by Alexandre Louis Pommery and Narcisse Greno in 1858, but it was only in 1874 that Alexandre’s widow, Louise, converted the business into a Champagne house. Louise is a legendary figure thanks to this Brut Royal Champagne which was the first to be made in this dry style that is now used by all Champagne producers.
To ensure consistency and quality across all vintages, the house sources grapes from 300 hectares of vineyards in the Cotes de Blancs and the Montagne de Reims. This allows cellar master Thierry Gasco to adjust the cuvee each year to match the typical house style. After vinification the Champagnes are aged in Pommery’s magnificent cellars which are 18km in length, 30 metres underground, and have been cut out of the chalk bedrock found here.
This historic Brut Champagne is made in a rich and powerful style with lots of influence from the lengthy bottle ageing on the lees. In the glass you’ll immediately notice the fine stream of bubbles and delicate notes of green apple and citrus. On the palate there’s a smooth mousse, bright streak of acidity and a long finish with hints of toasted brioche, vanilla and a little spice.
