The Berthelot family has been making Champagne for five generations in the little Premier Cru village of Dizy. Founded by Emile Berthelot in 1884, today the house is in the hands of enologist Arnaud Berthelot and his wife Valerie. The couple see themselves as caretakers of the estate for future generations with a duty to protect the natural environment which gives life to their stunning Champagnes.
In the glass the Cuvée Rosé displays lively effervescence and a deep salmon hue from the 15% red wine used to colour and intensify the assemblage. Intense aromas of red cherries and raspberries reveal the dominance of the Pinot Noir which makes up 60% of the cuvée, while the Chardonnay makes its presence felt on the palate with zesty citrus fruit and a fresh acidity.
Arnaud and Valerie age this Rosé in their cellar for a minimum of three years to produce a well-integrated, rounded Champagne which is finished with a low dosage. This signature house style emphasises the pure essence of their Grand Cru and Premier Cru Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes and retains a crisp freshness which makes their Champagnes incredibly food-friendly. To complement the assertive Pinot Noir component of the Cuvée Rosé, try pairing with quail or pheasant served with wild cherries.
