Founded in 1776 in Reims, the Louis Roederer Champagne house actually took this name in 1833 when Louis himself began managing the company inherited from his uncle. The vineyards, which extend over almost 240 hectares, are located in the areas of Montagne de Reims, Côtes des Blancs, and Vallée de la Marne.
Collection 244 is a blend of base wines obtained from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier grapes, to which approximately 35% of Réserve Perpétuelle is added and a further 10% of previous harvests or wines from young parcels of the Crystal domaine. The assembled wine rests on the lees for at least 4 years.
It is a powerful and complex Champagne, with a bright straw-yellow color, golden reflections, and a fine and persistent perlage. On the nose, it reveals a broad bouquet with hints of ripe fruit (especially peach and mango) and then candied citrus zest and the classic notes of bread crust and brioche. On the palate, it is fresh and full, lively and elegant. It has a pleasant creamy consistency and a complex and long finish. In food pairings it is very versatile: it goes well with seafood but is also perfect with white meat.
