Located in the heart of Epernay, the Maison Charles Ellner Champagne has always been a family business since the end of the 19th century, when the founder, Charles Emile Ellner, began acquiring small vineyards in Epernay. It was then in 1905 that he produced the first Champagne under his own label. His son Pierre and his 4 grandchildren developed the business and, in 1972, the company became "Negociant Manipulant". Today the company is in the hands of Jean-Pierre Ellner, grandson of Charles, together with his daughters Emmanuelle and Alexandra, and the grandsons Frederic and Arnaud Ellner who manage the vineyards and the production.
Made from Chardonnay (60%) and Pinot Noir (40%), without malolactic fermentation, and left on the lees for five years, this cuvée has a very good structure, with lots of elegance and length.
On the nose, the Champagne Charles Ellner Grande Reserve Brut shows aromas of fresh white flowers, fruit, such as apple and white currant, and some elegant marine notes that distinguish all Ellner champagnes. Light hints of bread crust add complexity to the olfactory profile. On the palate, the wine is characterized by marked acidity and remarkable minerality. The dosage of sugars gives balance and roundness. The finish is persistent and recalls the aromas perceived on the nose. Try it with rainbow trout, tuna steak, or salmon.
