Fabrice Agrapart comes from a family of winemakers for four generations. The family estate, initially founded in 1894, was recently divided between the two brothers Fabrice and Pascal. The company, located in Avize, in the Côte des Blancs, has vineyards spread across several Grand Crus, where the main grape variety is Chardonnay. However, they also grow Pinot Noir and Meunier, Pinot Blanc and the lesser-known Arbane and Petit Meslier.
Atoma Champagne is a multi-vintage blend made with Chardonnay grapes from some Grands Crus of the Côte des Blancs (Avize, Cramant, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, and Oiry). 50% of the cuvée is wine from the current year, added with a perpetual cuvée of wines from Montagne de Reims and fermented in barrel. The wine is aged for a period of 20-32 months on the lees and is then marketed 2 months after disgorgement.
The result is a balanced and complex wine with a fragrant and lively aromatic profile with notes of citrus, green apple, and pear followed by clear mineral notes, due to the typical chalky soils of the Côte des Blancs. On the palate, it is fresh and soft with a silky texture and a fine and persistent perlage that tickles the palate. It has a well-integrated acidity and some toasted notes. The long finish recalls mineral hints. It makes an elegant aperitif but is best enjoyed with white meat and seafood.
