Montsant Blends
Capcanes Mas Picosa 2017
Drink now through 2022. No need to decant before serving.
The Capcanes cooperative was founded in 1933 by five local Catalan families who recognised that by joining forces they could improve the quality and efficiency of their winemaking. Since that time the winery has grown in size and reputation as more and more local families have joined the cooperative.
Mas Picosa is a luscious organic red wine that contains Garnacha, Merlot and Tempranillo and a touch of Mazuelo sourced from member growers in the Montsant wine region. All of the grapes are harvested by hand and the varieties are vinified separately before the final composition of the blend is decided. Before bottling the wines are aged in stainless steel tanks for four months to showcase the pure fruit character.
The nose reveals enticing hints of red cherries, plums, dried flowers and baked earth, while on the palate there is a delightful red berry jam and spicy character. The texture is soft and supple with ripe tannins, a medium body and a long, clean finish. This easy-going Spanish red is ideal to drink on its own or enjoyed as a fine accompaniment to a platter of cured Iberian ham, hard cheeses or grilled red meats.
