Dark purple in color with bright ruby highlights, this Barbera is gemlike. An exciting combination of fruit, spice and earth that will surely please. A fresh bouquet of lilac and rose combine with bright ripe fruit of black cherry and blueberry. Aromas of forest floor and crushed pine needles mingle with coffee bean and nutmeg spice. On the palate, expressive bright fruit of cherry and raspberry mix with acidity of cranberry and pomegranate. Soft white pepper and baking spices lead to smooth tannins and good structure for a long persistent finish. This medium bodied wine is at once juicy and drinkable.
Enjoy this Barbera as a wonderful pairing with goat stew and hearty soups, as well as beef roasts. Or, sip alongside pasta dishes with tomato sauce or pizza with rich cheese and fresh herbs. A very good food wine!
Beppe Ca’Viola has once again produced an overall pleasing wine. The grapes were grown on south-southeast facing hills at a rather high elevation of 400m, in terroir consisting of calcareous marl and clay. Sustainably grown, with careful selection, the fruit went through a long maceration of 15-20 days, followed by 15 months in oak and used barriques. The resulting wine is fresh and drinkable while having plenty of depth of flavor.
