Bussola is today regarded as one of the Veneto’s very finest producers and has been awarded numerous accolades including several Tre Bicchieris from Italy’s top food and wine guide, Gambero Rosso. Winemaker Tommaso Bussola initially pursued a career as a stonemason before taking over the running of his uncle’s estate in the 1980s. Over the years he has been joined in the family business by his two sons and produces some of Valpolicella’s most sought-after wines in a traditional style.

This Valpolicella is crafted from Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, and Molinara grapes grown on prime chalky gravel soils. The wine is refermented on grape skins already used for Amarone wines to add complexity and the young wine is then aged in large casks for 40 months, far longer than standard Valpolicella wines.

On the nose there are heady aromas of dried fruit, crushed dark berries, violets and sweet candy while the first sip reveals a generous full body, firm tannins and muscular structure that will age well. A great addition to any wine cellar, although it can also be enjoyed now alongside fresh pasta served with a rich ragu sauce, hearty game dishes or barbecued meats.
