Bussola Ca' del Laito Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore 2016

In the 1970s stonemason Tommaso Bussola began to work alongside his uncle on his estate in the heart of Valpolicella and soon developed an all-consuming passion for winemaking. In the 1980s he took over the running of the estate and now produces some of the region’s top wines with the help of his wife and two sons. Over the years Bussola has received numerous coveted awards including several Tre Bicchieris from Gambero Rosso, the Italian wine and food guide.

This Valpolicella Ripasso is made in the classic Bussola style which combines opulent fruit with a powerful structure and an uplifting freshness which adds balance and elegance. The wine is composed of the local Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, and Molinara varieties with the grapes carefully harvested by hand and fermented for around 10 days. The wine is then refermented using grape skins which have already been used to make Amarone wine to add extra complexity, structure and texture.

The wine is then aged in 700 litre oak casks for 17 months before bottling. The result is a rich, robust wine which opens with intense dark berry, dried fruit and sweet spice notes. A great wine to drink with hearty red meat dishes or to cellar for a few more years.
