Bodegas Bianchi is a New World winery with Old World heritage. Founder Valentin Bianchi moved to Argentina from Italy in 1910, and by 1928, he had established his winery: “El Chiche”, the ancestor of Bodegas Bianchi. It is a long-running family winery, now passing into its fourth generation.
The winery is located in the middle of Mendoza, with a view of the imposing Andean foothills. Dry, stony soils make this a place for bold red grapes. The “Enzo Bianchi” Gran Corte is a tribute to Don Enzo Bianchi, the father of the current generation of wine-makers, composed of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, with hints of Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
This is a hefty, vivid wine, deep red with hints of purple. On the nose, you can pick out notes from the different varietals - peppery red fruits mingle with ripe black ones, and sweet hints of cocoa and baking spice are contrasted beautifully by verdant herbs and floral notes. This wine is deep in flavour, bringing notes of plum, cassis, blackberry and red cherry, and combining them effortlessly with layers of spice. This Gran Corte is one of Mendoza’s finest red offerings and will be a brilliant companion for a beef or venison steak.
