The Antoniolo winery was founded in 1948 in Gattinara, in the Sesia Valley, in northern Piedmont. The winery is now managed by Alberto and Lorella, the third generation of the Antoniolo family. Today the Antoniolo family owns approximately 15 hectares of vineyards, cultivated almost exclusively with Nebbiolo from vines that are between 35 and 40 years old, planted on soils of morainic and volcanic origin.
The wines of Cru San Francesco perfectly represent the intense and rich character of the Gattinara wines. The vineyard is only 4 hectares, entirely exposed to the west, and the soils are of volcanic origin. Production is limited to around 4,000 numbered bottles.
The Gattinara Riserva San Francesco from the Antoniolo winery is characterized by a pale garnet red color and a rich and wide-ranging aromatic profile. On the nose, the wine reveals aromas of wild berries and black cherry, mineral and spicy notes with some hints of leather. On the palate, it is elegant and balanced with well-integrated tannins and good freshness. It is a rich, powerful, and warm wine with a clean and savory finish. It is the perfect wine for tasty roasts and Italian-style beef braised in red wine.
