Founded in 1995 in Mendoza by Alberto Antonini, a flying winemaker, and Antonio Morescalchi, an entrepreneur, the Altos Las Hormigas winery produces excellent quality Argentinian wines from some of the most prestigious terroirs in the country. Today Antonini and Morescalchi are supported by winemaker Attilio Pagli, and Carlos Vazquez, and the company extends over approximately 206 hectares of land, of which 40 are vineyards.
The Malbec grapes are selected and harvested from a vineyard located at the height of the Uco Valley and characterized by the presence of a calcium carbonate conglomerate. The peculiar pedoclimatic conditions of this site guarantee the production of a Malbec less intensely fruity and characterized by a special mineral salinity. After fermentation, the wine rests for 20 months in foudres, before bottling.
Altos Las Hormigas Appellation Paraje Altamira Malbec is an expressive red with an intense and bright purple color. The nose is very fragrant, with aromas of black fruit, like blackberries, plums, and blueberries, and some balsamic and floral aromas. On the palate, there is good intensity of fruit. It is well-balanced with well-integrated tannins. The final is long and rich in mineral notes. It goes very well with all grilled meats, but it is especially delicious with pulled pork.
