La Poja is a stunning ruby red, with an aromatic bouquet of ripe red fruits, sweet spices, liquorice, balsamic and pepper. It is a 100% Corvina Veronese wine, grown on the peak of La Grola hill in the heart of Valpolicella.
The Allegrini family are deeply connected with the history of Valpolicella wine and have been making wine in the region since the 16th century. The origin of this wine, La Grola Hill, was planted in 1979 by Giovanni Allegrini, and the family business is now in the safe hands of Giovanni’s son Franco, daughter Marilisa and niece Silvia.
This Corvina Veronese wine is noble, sophisticated and a world unto its own. The grapes were left on the vine until overripe, granting deep, ripe flavours to the wine’s overall fresh character. It is perfectly balanced, sporting velvety tannins and a reservoir of smokey, spicy notes, with herbs that verge on medicinal. The grapes spent 20 months ageing in Allier barrels, followed by 8 months in Slavonian oak, and were finished off with 10 months in the bottle. The finish lingers on the tongue. Consider pairing La Poja with refined pasta dishes or dishes involving red meat in a tomato sauce.
