Malbec Wines
Malbec wine is best known for its rich dark fruit flavours and silky smooth character which makes it very easy to drink. Most Malbec wines are medium-bodied with medium levels of tannin, acidity and alcohol. They're usually aged in oak barrels which add enticing notes of cinnamon, clove and baking spice to the luscious plum, blackberry and black cherry fruit notes.
Key Malbec Wine Regions
The world's most famous Malbec producer is Argentina where the grape was first planted in 1868 by a French botanist. Argentina's most important Malbec region is Mendoza where the high altitude conditions in the Uco Valley and Lujan de Cuyo help produce suave reds with ample fruit flavours. Malbec is also grown in France where it is one of the grapes used in Bordeaux red blends. The majority of France's Malbec wines come from Cahors and tend to be more austere with savoury and leathery notes.
Top Malbec Food Pairings
Malbec red wines are bold and full of flavour, so it's recommended to pair them with hearty dishes. In Argentina the classic pairing is a juicy steak cooked on the barbecue, although they also go well with mushrooms, burgers, and aged hard cheeses like Pecorino.
Very good service, fast and reliable.
