What is champagne made from?

Champagne is a sparkling wine made mostly from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and also Pinot Meunier grapes. From these grapes, a still wine is made that is then subjected to a second fermentation in the bottle, giving it its sparkling character. Champagne grapes are usually harvested in the Champagne province of France and are produced according to the stringent quality specifications and winemaking methods.
