Wine & Soul Manoella Douro Branco 2019
Cellar for up to 3 years. Serve chilled.
Wine & Soul was founded by husband and wife Sandra Tavares da Silva and Jorge Serodio Borges who both previously worked as winemakers for top Portuguese wineries like Niepoort and Vale Dona Maria. In 2001 they purchased an old port lodge and began their own wine label by buying in top quality fruit from the Pinhão Valley. In 2003 they were able to acquire their own vineyard in the valley which is planted with 76 year old vines of over 35 different local varieties.
This deliciously refreshing white wine comes from the couple’s Quinta da Manoella estate. The vineyard is planted with 52 year old vines of the Gouveio, Viosinho, Rabigato and Códega do Larinho on a north-facing slope which helps to preserve plenty of refreshness and aromatics in the fruit. Once harvested the grapes are carefully pressed and the must is fermented in stainless steel tanks. The young wine is then aged on the lees for 6 months to add polish and complexity.
The result is a vibrant medium bodied white wine bursting with ripe peach, citrus and delicate floral notes. On the palate there is a bright streak of acidity and well-rounded texture which make this a great match for fresh seafood, fish and creamy cheeses.
