Gruner Veltliner
Weingut Birgit Eichinger Wechselberg Gruner Veltliner 2021
Drink now, or cellar for up to 10 years. No need to decant before serving.
Being a Kamptal native, Birgit Eichinger knows the region better than anybody. She founded her eponymous winery in 1992 and has been producing excellent, terroir-driven wines ever since. Supported by her daughter Gloria and husband Christian, Birgit’s winery has been recognised as an Austrian Traditional Winery, or “ÖTW” for short, one of just 67 in the entire country.
The cellar is located just outside Strass village, serving as a gateway to stunning views of the Gaisberg vineyards and Kamp Valley. Birgit likes to keep samples of her most remarkable creations in a wine library - and there are plenty of them. The winery has won multiple prizes, including trophies from Wein.Pur, and several awards within the Kamptal DAC.
Bursting with fragrant lemon, salty miso and spices, this rich Grüner Veltliner was sourced from Wechselberg. The vineyard is located on a south-facing hill, at an altitude of 367 metres, with gorgeous views of the Strasser Valley. The wine flows easily, with a juicy mouthfeel and a punchy citrus core. Notes of smoke, pepper, sage and pear are all present on the palate. It has a long finish, tingling with lemon.
Grüner Veltliner wines, particularly single-vineyard ones, may develop secondary and tertiary notes the longer they are held. They can also be enjoyed now, with some spicy dishes.
