The Ribera del Duero is home to some of the great Spanish wine-makers, and those at Vina Pedrosa are proud to count among them. Founded in 1980, the winery was well-established in the region before it became a DOP appellation. Nowadays, the family business is in the hands of three brothers, Benjamin, Manuel and Adolfo Pérez Pascua.

Part of what makes Ribera wine so special is the region’s see-sawing diurnal temperature range. La Navilla vineyard lies at approximately 844 metres above sea level, making this temperature swing even more exaggerated than usual. Add some clay and limestone-rich soil into the mix, and you have the recipe for a truly tremendous wine.

La Navilla is for lovers of intense yet elegant red wines. It has a rich, lively bouquet of blackcurrant, plum and blackberry, supported by strong notes of eucalyptus and vanilla. The wine spent 20 months ageing in French oak barrels, sourced from the Allier forest. On the palate, the range of flavour expands further. Look for notes of tobacco, leather and cassis, exciting hints of spice and a flowery vein of violet. It is equal parts powerful and refreshing, perfect for pairing with a bold meat dish, such as cochinillo asado, albondigas, or a simple steak.
