Vaziani Winery, located in the charming city of Telavi within the renowned Kakheti wine region of Georgia, is an important winery that merges modern techniques with traditional winemaking practices. It is surrounded by the ancient landscape of the Alazani Valley and the Tsiv-Gombori mountain range, which give Kakheti wine its own special character.

Other than creating exceptional wines, Vaziani also aims to export Georgian wine culture to the rest of the world. It has garnered countless awards since its foundation in 1982, including platinum medals from Decanter and gold medals at the International Wine Challenge.

This is a fine example of a Saperavi, unfurling in the mouth, much like the peacock tail on Vaziani’s label. Layers of red and black fruit waft from the nose, including strong hints of cherry, blackberry and cassis. After some time breathing, undertones of nut and baking spice become more evident. It is well-structured on the palate, with strong acids adding a certain crunchy and juicy texture. The fruit flavours are pronounced, with blackberry and black cherry leading the way, followed by hints of dark chocolate and coffee. Tertiary notes from oak-ageing bloom on the finish. Consider pairing this wine with roasted meats, lamb kebabs or a beef stew.
