Awarded as one of the "Most Influential Women Winemakers" by The Drink Business magazine in 2012, Susana Balbo was the first Argentinian woman to graduate in enology. After almost twenty years of working for some wineries such as Michel Torino, Martins, and Catena Zapata she created her own company in 1999, in the heart of Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza. Her company, where she is now supported by her children José and Ana, is characterized by a young and dynamic style and a philosophy aimed at constant innovation.
This is a Bordeaux blend with a prevalence of Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes come from the Agrelo vineyard which surrounds the cellar, planted by Susana Balbo herself in 2001. The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 15 months.
Brioso is a smooth and round red wine with powerful yet silky tannins and a delicious concentration of ripe black fruits, figs, dark chocolate, toasted bread notes, and a light spicy touch. It is a wine of good consistency but not heavy, with excellent acidity and freshness. Perfect with roast lamb, pappardelle with meat sauce and polenta with truffles.
A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!
