Koerner and Joan Rombauer moved to Napa from Escondido in Southern California in 1972 and soon after purchased a home on the property where the winery now sits. Joan worked for the famous Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars while Koerner was an airline pilot for many years. In 1980 the couple made their very first Rombauer wine, the 1980 Cabernet Sauvignon, which is still being produced to this day.
Rombauer has a special place in Napa Valley history thanks to their exceptional winemaking facilities which were used by many legendary wineries over the years including Dominus, Spottswoode, Duckhorn, Merryvale, and Corison. Today the winery is run by the second and third generations of the family who focus on using sustainable practices wherever possible and producing top quality grapes.
Their magnificent Rombauer Cabernet is a classic Napa Cab with big, bold aromas of crushed cassis, blackberry and plum mingling with hints of sweet spice, bitter chocolate, and baked earth on the nose. The wine spends 16 months ageing in French oak barrels before bottling which adds firm yet smooth tannins, a well-developed structure and subtle hints of toast and cedar to the finished wine. Cellar for another 10-15 years or drink now with hearty barbecue and red meat dishes.
Great choice of wines and very fast delivery.
