Renato Ratti was one of the most important figures of Piedmontese wine. After his degree in enology and work experience in Brazil, in 1965, Renato bought a small vineyard in the historical cru of Barolo Marcenasco, in La Morra, thus starting his career as a wine producer. Since 1988, after Renato’s death, the company, which now covers 38 hectares of property, distributed between La Morra, Mango, and Costigliole d'Asti, has been managed by his son Pietro. In 2002, the cellar was completely renovated, with the addition of a wonderful tasting room with a breathtaking view of the surrounding Langhe.
The wine, produced from the autochthonous Barbera vine, is aged for one year in barriques and the following 6 months in the bottle.
In the glass, Renato Ratti Barbera d'Asti Superiore Villa Pattono shows a beautiful bright and intense ruby red color. The aromatic profile is complex, with aromas of ripe red fruit and nuances of sweet spices and licorice. In the mouth, it is well balanced with a lively acidity, a medium body, and a pleasant lingering finish. This is an exceptionally food-friendly wine. It is perfect with pasta dishes with succulent sauces and game, with white meat but also with Piedmontese boiled meat (Bollito Misto) and medium-aged cheeses.
