Syrah
Quarter Acre Syrah 2016
Drink now through to 2024. No need to decant before serving.
Previous vintages of this elegant New Zealand red have previously scooped up prestigious international awards including Best Red Wine of Show at the International Wine Competition held in London. These accolades are testament to the precise and passionate winemaking that goes into the Quarter Acre Syrah and the top quality fruit produced by the hillside vineyards planted in New Zealand's Hawke's Bay wine region.
Named by winemaker Rod McDonald after the Quarter Acre block concept that many Kiwis aspire to with space for a large house and a big backyard for the kids, this bold Syrah opens with familiar scents of ripe dark berries, violets and black pepper. The first taste reveals an elegant structure and rich texture complemented by bold black fruit flavours that linger long on the tongue.
Rod adopts a light-handed approach to his winemaking which is evident from the incredibly well-balanced and pure flavour profile of the Quarter Acre Syrah. By his own admission Rod largely leaves the wine to develop as it wishes, using wild yeasts, minimal filtration, and avoiding additives wherever possible. This creates a truly authentic single vineyard wine which speaks of the terroir where it was born, in the stunning surroundings of Hawke’s Bay.
