Founded in 2001, the incredible Poggio al Tesoro winery is the passion project of two siblings, Marilisa and Walter Allegrini. The duo were originally from Valpolicella but fell in love with the picturesque seaside location of Bolgheri in the region of Tuscany, and its unlimited wine-making potential.
In a region saturated with wine and wineries, Poggio al Tesoro is a fantastic name to seek out for that perfect balance of quality, value and flair. The location that Walter first became enamoured with lies just 3 kilometres from the Mediterranean Sea, and is defined by its excellent climate, with long hours of scorching sun.
Sondraia is Poggio al Tesoro’s flagship wine and a bona fide taste of Bolgheri. It opens up with a bouquet of ripe plum, black cherry and blackberry, with notes of dried, pungent herbs and spice. This is a Super Tuscan wine, composed of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The palate is suitably bold and eloquent, alive with velvety tannins and angular acidity. You can discover a wealth of fruity notes, such as raspberry, cherry and cranberry, along with hints of vanilla and minerality. Sondraia will be an excellent pairing for hard cheeses or roast game.
