The story of this luscious Mencia begins on the slopes of the mountainous Bierzo wine region which are planted with venerable old vines. The winery Bodegas Terras Gauda works over 200 small plots of vines here that are harvested by hand. To ensure that the grapes arrive in the cellar in optimum condition they are harvested in small crates before undergoing a careful selection process at the winery.

The fermentation process is then carried out in stainless steel tanks and the wine is subsequently aged in a combination of American and French oak barrels for 8 months. When these steps are complete the winery then ages the wine in the bottle for a further two years before it is deemed ready for release.

The result is a deeply-coloured wine with enticing aromas of dark berries, sweet spices and tobacco. On the palate there are intense blackberry, dark plum and baking spice flavours along with a silky smooth mouthfeel, soft tannins and a generous full body. This bold Spanish red is ideal to enjoy alongside charcuterie and hard cheeses or hearty meat dishes like beef bourguignon or pasta served with a rich bolognese sauce.
