There are hundreds of wineries to explore in Burgundy, but any wine enjoyer's journey would be better with a stop at Domaine Phillipe Colin. Though it was only founded in 2004, the Colin family have been making wine in the region for well over a century, from classic Burgundy varietals like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

The man in charge, Phillipe Colin, has garnered worldwide praise, including a gold medal at Concours International de Lyon and more 90+ ratings than you can count. His wines are notable for their elegant, highly-refined style, and this Pinot Noir is a perfect example of that. The grapes were sourced from a small vineyard within Chassagne-Montrachet, dominated by limestone soils.

Wholesome scents of red fruit mingle on the nose, with accents of spice, liquorice and smoke, gained from ageing in oak for 12 to 15 months. It is dark for a Pinot Noir, signifying a rustic character that becomes more apparent on the palate. You can discover notes of raspberry, strawberry, black tea and hints of mushroom in the mouth, along with a chewy tannic quality. Nonetheless, this wine retains a certain elegance, typical of Phillippe Colin. Consider pairing it with tender red meat or earthy mushroom dishes.
