Paritua is a winery based in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand, named for the small river that flows through the vineyards. Inspired by the wine-making traditions of Burgundy and Bordeaux, this North Island winery combines New World vibrancy with an Old World sensibility.
Since 2008, Paritua has been spearheaded by Hawke’s Bay native Jason Stent, who has worked in the industry for well over two decades. After a spell in Bordeaux during his twenties, Stent brought a wealth of wisdom from France’s premier wine region back to his home country. Those at Paritua carefully refined range of red and white wines, from French grapes grown in a markedly fresh New Zealand terroir.
The Paritua Red is a Bordeaux-style blend, containing 58% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon and 16% Cabernet Franc. It’s alive with rich aromas of hedgerow berries, ripe plums, spicy wood and hints of vanilla and cinnamon. On the palate, you can discover a supple, concentrated character, with a core of dark fruits: blackcurrant, blackberry and plum. Paritua Red is elevated by intense, mouth-drying tannins and a long, satisfying finish. For a delicious gastronomic experience, consider pairing it with a full-blooded red meat dish, or dense game birds, such as turkey, pheasant or goose.
