Pares Balta is located in the Penedes wine region close to the bustling city of Barcelona in north-eastern Spain. The winery is run by two brothers, Joan and Josep Cusiné, whose wives, Elena Jimenez and Marta Casas, take care of the winemaking. The family adopts a light touch wherever possible, using sheep to graze the vineyards and produce natural fertilizer and implementing organic and biodynamic agricultural practices.
Hisenda Miret is a limited edition micro cuvee crafted from 100% Garnacha from the estate’s Cal Miret vineyard. This fruit used to be destined for a rosé wine, but Elena and Marta saw the site’s potential to produce a delicious and intense red wine. To achieve this they dramatically reduced the vineyard’s yield by 50% with green harvesting, a policy which has increased the depth of flavour and quality of the remaining grapes.
In the winery the fruit is treated with a light touch to preserve the natural character of the variety and the young wine is aged in a combination of new and used oak barrels for 5 months before bottling and release. The result is a rich and juicy red which is bursting with dark fruit flavours, smooth tannins and a long clean finish.
