Albarino
Pardevalles Albarin 2016
Best enjoyed now through 2020. Decanting is not necessary.
Elaborated from an obscure varietal indigenous to the D.O. Tierra de León, this 100% Albarín Blanco is every bit as charming on the palate as its little clusters of fragrant grapes are cute. One must be careful to not mistake this refreshing varietal for the Albariño, as the Albarín Blanco is clearly in a class of its own. On the verge of extinction, less than 30 years ago, the technical team at Pardevalles planted a small test patch with favorable results which led them to push, successfully, for the varietal’s development.
Marked by a luminescent straw yellow color, tinged with greenish hues. Aromas of fresh exotic fruit, sweet and tropical, float from the vessel while your olfactory bathes in the tertiary herbaciousness typical of the Albarín Blanco.
You will find this rare varietal refreshing and acidic in all the right ways. Ripe limes, lychee and orange intermingle well with the slightly more vegetal notes. It is balanced with a background of mint and fig swirled in light dairy.
Serve this wine chilled between 8°C - 12°C. Ideal meal accompaniments would be roasted or grilled fowl, sheep cheese, fresh exotic fruits, stone fruit compotes, smoked oysters, mussels with garlic butter sauce, fish and shellfish dishes, and salads.
Viñedos y Bodega Pardevalles was founded in 1949 by Rafael Alonso and continues to produce “wine of exclusively high quality from the indigenous grape varieties Prieto Picudo and Albarín Blanco. The estate originally produced liquor as well as wine.
