Nin-Ortiz Planetes de Nin Priorat 2021

This is a sumptuous red wine, emblematic of Barcelona and the region of Catalonia as a whole. It is a blend of 60% Garnacha and 40% Carignan, both of which were harvested from a 5 hectare plot in the winemaking region of Priorat. It begins with wholesome scents of dark berries and plums, alongside herbs, iron, and fresh ink.

Planetes de Nin is a great option for those looking to explore some of Spain’s overlooked appellations. Priorat is often overshadowed by Rioja, but it is a truly excellent red wine region, one which winemakers Carles Ortiz and Esther Nin call their home. The name of the wine is taken directly from the plot of land where the vines grow, Finca les Planetes, 350-450 metres above sea level.

Planetes de Nin is both fresh and full-bodied in the mouth. Notes of plum and blackberry appear, supported by good minerality. The tannins are fine and polished, matching the wine’s superb acidity. The grapes were harvested from vines ages between 10 and 20 years, growing on schist soils. An ideal wine for pairing with vegetable stew, lamb, or chorizo. It was aged for 17 months in French oak before bottling.
