Founded and led by Daphne Glorian, Clos Erasmus is a Priorat winery renowned for its excellent wines with great aging potential.
Clos Erasmus Laurel blends primarily Garnacha, with Syrah and a small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes come from younger vines in the organically and biodynamically farmed Escales, Aubagues, and Socarrats vineyards. Here, the vines benefit from excellent exposure on terraced slopes at altitudes between 375 and 450 meters, rooted in the dark slate soils characteristic of the region. Following hand-harvesting, vinification takes place separately for each grape variety using a mix of oak vessels, concrete tanks, and amphorae. The wine then ages for 18 months prior to blending and bottling. The use of vessels made from different materials ensures a fine balance between structure, freshness, and fruit expression.
On the nose, the wine reveals a broad aromatic profile featuring notes of blackberry, sour cherry, and plum, interspersed with hints of Mediterranean herbs, violet, pepper, and licorice, set against a mineral backdrop of warm stone and graphite. On the palate, it is generous, juicy, and smooth. It offers a soft mouthfeel and pleasing concentration, well-balanced by refreshing acidity and a distinctive mineral streak. The tannins are firm yet well-integrated, leading to a long, balanced finish. Enjoy it with herb-roasted lamb.
