A Birthday to Remember with DAOU & Colomé Celebrating my mother’s birthday was made even more special thanks to two incredible wines—DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 and Colomé Auténtico Malbec 2020. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon. From the first sip, it enveloped us in its rich, velvety embrace. The deep dark fruit flavors, hints of cocoa, and perfectly balanced oak made every glass feel like a true indulgence. It was bold yet elegant, a wine that effortlessly brought warmth and joy to our gathering. Seeing my mother savor each sip with a smile made it all the more memorable. The Colomé Auténtico Malbec also delivered beautifully, with its pure expression of high-altitude Malbec. It was powerful, with ripe blackberries, spice, and a smooth, lingering finish—an excellent complement to the evening. These wines didn’t just enhance our meal; they became part of the celebration, elevating every toast and conversation. A heartfelt thank you to DAOU and Colomé for making this special occasion truly unforgettable!

    Founded by Gil Nickel in 1997, Nickel & Nickel Winery is located in Oakville, in the heart of Napa Valley. The company concentrates its production on monovarietal wines coming from different vineyards in the area, which best express the great diversity of composition of the terroirs typical of Napa. In particular, Nickel & Nickel Winery is famous for its exceptional Cabernet Sauvignons (it produces at least 15 different ones) from single vineyards.

    The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes for this wine come from the Sullenger vineyard, named after the farm's founder John C. Sullenger who established it in 1880. The vineyard, planted on clayey soil, extends over 30 hectares, where several clones of Cabernet Sauvignon are grown to guarantee a wine of great balance, where each clone brings essential characteristics to the final wine.

    Nickel & Nickel John C. Sullenger Cabernet Sauvignon is a powerful and complex wine with an intense aromatic profile and notes of red and dark fruit such as plum and cassis, blueberry and blackberry, followed by earthy hints, sweet spices, and sage. On the palate, it has a full body and a silky texture. It is concentrated and full of flavor, rounded and rich. The finish is long and recalls delicate notes of baking spices. Perfect with brisket and short ribs.
