With a long tradition of winemaking spanning eight generations, the Mettler family established their winery in the California appellation of Lodi in 1999. In this wine district, the vineyards benefit from the influence of the Pacific Ocean, which favors the production of mature, full-bodied wines. The company grows its grapes organically.
The Albariño grapes, a variety native to Galicia, on the northwest coast of Spain, come from a company vineyard located in the heart of Lodi, in the Mokelumne River sub-appellation. In recent years, Albarino has been gaining popularity in the American market, and in this region, it expresses itself best thanks to the fine sandy clay soil and the cool, breezy evenings that favor the development of its lively acidity and aromatic complexity. After the manual harvest, fermentation takes place in stainless steel at low temperatures.
In the glass, the wine reveals a bright straw color and a broad and fragrant aromatic profile with notes of citrus, ripe pear, apple, and nectarine on a background of white flowers and spices. On the palate, it is fresh and lively with a touch of minerality and a clean and fruity flavor. It is full-bodied and well-structured, warm and harmonious. It has a refreshing acidity that balances the taste and a velvety texture. The finish is long and juicy. Try it with seafood, fresh cheeses, and of course tapas.
