Located on Negrar Hill, north of Verona, the Mazzi winery produces Amarone and Valpolicella wines in the historic denomination area. Their wines are always processed separately based on the hill of production, to better identify and enhance the differences between the various terroirs. The company, owned by the Mazzi family, is today led by Roberto and his sons Stefano and Antonio.
Valpolicella Classico Superiore Poiega is a blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, and Molinara grapes harvested in the Poiega vineyard in the Negrar area. Fermentation takes place with selected yeasts in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. The finished wine is then aged for 18 months in second passage barriques, plus another 6 months in the bottle.
The wine has a brilliant color with ruby-red tones. The aromatic profile is rich and ripe with notes of red fruit such as plum and cherry and hints of Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, the wine shows a full and harmonious flavor. It is concentrated, powerful, and well-balanced with good acidity. The finish is persistent and slightly spicy. It is excellent with pasta with wild boar ragu, or with medium-aged cheeses.
