Founded in 1997 by Mato Violić, Matusko Winery is located in Potomje on the Dalmatian Pelješac Peninsula of Croatia. The company produces some of the best wines in the area based on indigenous grapes and, thanks to its beautiful location, is also a popular destination for wine tourists.
The grapes of Plavac Mali, locally known as the 'blood of the soil' for its color and extraordinary resistance to drought, are rigorously selected from the Pelješac Peninsula, in the wine region of Dingač. The finished wine is aged in oak barrels for 3 years.
The wine has a deep and dense color with purple tones. On the nose, it reveals a broad and complex aromatic profile with notes of plum, red fruit jam, dried fruit, toasted hints, and beautiful aromas of dried roses, vanilla, and chocolate. On the palate, it is concentrated and full-bodied, dense and sumptuous. It has strong and well-integrated tannins and a long, warm, and slightly spicy finish. It is a classy wine with excellent aging potential, but it can already be enjoyed now, paired with venison served with a chocolate sauce, or with strong-flavored mature cheeses.
